Graphic Novel Round-Up

Readers,

We've had a bevy of graphic novels hit the "New Books" rack. Some standouts we think you may enjoy:

The Graphic Canon, v.1 &2. Smart, sassy interpretations of classic works of literature. Homer, Poe, Shakespeare, Keats, Thoreau, Nietzsche, Aristophanes, Darwin-- you name it, this book's got it.
Warning: Not a substitute for the real thing.

March, Book One. Written by congressman and civil rights icon movement John Lewis, this first book in a trilogy depicts "John Lewis' youth in rural Alabama, his life-changing meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr., the birth of the Nashville Student Movement, and their battle to tear down segregation through nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, building to a stunning climax on the steps of City Hall." An honest look at the tumult of mid-20th century America as well as a primer on non-violence, March -- a Coretta Scott King Award Honor Book -- will inform, unsettle, and hopefully inspire.

The Cute Girl Network. What happens when a group of women network to reveal the truth about a shared ex-boyfriend to his new love interest? Probably disaster, but in this case, a witty romantic comedy!

Feynman. A broad look at the life of Nobel Prize winning physicist -- and renown prankster -- Richard Feynman. Who wouldn't want to know more about someone who both worked on the Manhattan Project AND played the bongos?

The Walking Dead, v. 8. The title says it all.

Freakboy

Freakboy
Kristin Elizabeth Clark
Fiction C5482f

From the outside, Brendan Chase seems to have it pretty easy. He’s a star wrestler, a video game aficionado, and a loving boyfriend to his seemingly perfect match, Vanessa. But on the inside, Brendan struggles to understand why his body feels so wrong—why he sometimes fantasizes having long hair, soft skin, and gentle curves. Is there even a name for guys like him? Guys who sometimes want to be girls? Or is Brendan just a freak?

This novel in razor-sharp verse folds three narratives into one powerful story: Brendan trying to understand his sexual identity, Vanessa fighting to keep her and Brendan’s relationship alive, and Angel struggling to confront her demons.
